Description

Domaine Tortochot’s Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corvées 2023 is a powerful, fruit-driven Burgundy with the structure and depth associated with this renowned Côte de Nuits appellation. Produced by a family that has cultivated vines in Gevrey for four generations, it expresses the traditional character of the village: generous fruit, firm tannins and refreshing acidity. Gevrey-Chambertin is often regarded as the opening movement of Burgundy’s great symphony, and this wine offers a compelling introduction to its style.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby appearance, with an inviting aromatic profile of ripe red and dark berries alongside subtle earthy and spicy nuances. On the palate, it is notably full-bodied and concentrated, combining vibrant fruit with impressive substance and a long, persistent finish. Marked tannins and well-defined acidity give the wine a firm, age-worthy structure. It can be enjoyed within around five years, although more mature vintages may reward considerably longer cellaring. A little patience will allow the fruit and structure to knit together beautifully.

Production
Les Corvées is a Gevrey-Chambertin red made from Pinot Noir, the defining grape of Burgundy. The wine reflects the character of Gevrey’s Côte de Nuits terroir, where Pinot Noir is known for producing wines of both power and finesse. Domaine Tortochot follows a traditional style focused on expressing the vineyard and vintage, resulting in a wine with generous fruit, pronounced tannins and lively acidity.

Food & Serving
Its depth and structure make it a natural partner for roasted or braised beef, beef bourguignon, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs well with roast duck, mushroom-based dishes and mature cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential for a young bottle, but one to two hours in a decanter can help soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s aromatic complexity.

Producer
Domaine Tortochot has been owned by the Tortochot family for four generations, with a history of winemaking in Gevrey-Chambertin extending back to the 19th century. Today, the estate is led by Chantal Tortochot, the great-granddaughter of Paul Tortochot, who was once a modest vigneron on the Place des Marroniers. Trained as an oenologist, Chantal represents a new generation of Burgundian winemakers, maintaining the estate’s continuity while crafting traditional, terroir-focused Gevrey-Chambertin wines with fruit, power, acidity and the patience required for development.
