Domaine Tortochot, Clos de Vougeot 2021

Domaine Tortochot’s Clos de Vougeot 2021 is a distinguished Burgundy red from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most historic Grand Cru vineyards. Made in the traditional, powerful Gevrey-Chambertin style associated with the Tortochot family, it combines dark fruit, impressive structure and remarkable length. The 2021 vintage rewards patience, offering both immediate charm and the concentration to develop further in bottle.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep, dark purple colour. Its expressive nose reveals layers of woodland undergrowth, dark fruits, coffee and warm spicy tones, creating a complex and inviting aromatic profile. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich and opulent, with concentrated fruit and an enchanting finish. Firm, tightly knit tannins provide definition and suggest excellent ageing potential. While it can be enjoyed with careful decanting, additional bottle age will allow the tannins to soften and the terroir-driven character to emerge more fully.

Production
Clos de Vougeot is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru sites, known for producing structured, long-lived Pinot Noir. Domaine Tortochot’s 2021 is matured for an average of 18 months in new oak barrels, adding depth and subtle spice to the wine’s dark-fruited profile. Food & Serving
This impressive Burgundy is an excellent match for both elaborate and simple roast dishes, including roast beef, lamb or poultry. It also pairs beautifully with game, from richly flavoured venison to more delicate preparations of pheasant or wild boar. Serve at approximately 16–18°C and decant for 30 minutes to two hours before serving, depending on its stage of development.

Domaine Tortochot has been in the Tortochot family for four generations, with the family’s roots as vignerons in Gevrey reaching back to the 19th century. Today, the domaine is led by Chantal Tortochot, Paul Tortochot’s great-granddaughter and a trained oenologist. She represents a new generation of Burgundy winemakers while maintaining the domaine’s traditional identity: generous fruit, firm tannins and lively acidity. The estate is regarded as one of the better-known producers in Gevrey-Chambertin, a village with more than 100 winegrowing domaines and a central role in the history of great Burgundy.
