Description

Domaine Tortochot’s 2020 Clos de Vougeot is a powerful and refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most historic Grand Cru vineyards. Crafted from Pinot Noir and shaped by the celebrated terroir of the Côte de Nuits, it combines dark fruit richness with savoury complexity, firm tannins and impressive length. Clos de Vougeot has been associated with Burgundy’s finest wines for centuries, its walled vineyard having originally been cultivated by Cistercian monks.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep, dark-purple colour. Its aromatic profile is layered and inviting, revealing notes of woodland undergrowth, coffee, dark berries and warm spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, generous and sumptuous, with concentrated fruit, a compelling sense of depth and an enchanting, persistent finish. Firm tannins and lively structure provide excellent balance and significant ageing potential. Although approachable with careful decanting, this is a wine that will benefit from patience in bottle, allowing its fruit, savoury nuances and fine Burgundy complexity to develop further.

Production
Clos de Vougeot lies in the Côte de Nuits and is renowned for its varied clay-and-limestone soils and distinctive vineyard microclimates. Domaine Tortochot takes a traditional approach designed to express the character of the terroir and the power of Pinot Noir. The 2020 vintage is matured for an average of 18 months in oak barrels, including a significant proportion of new oak, helping to frame the wine’s richness and structure without overshadowing its dark-fruited profile.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 30 minutes to two hours before serving, depending on the wine’s stage of development. Its depth and tannic structure make it a natural partner for roasted meats, beef, lamb and other substantial dishes, while its refined savoury character also complements both robust and more delicate game preparations. It can be enjoyed now with decanting, but further bottle ageing will be rewarded.

Producer
Domaine Tortochot is a respected family domaine with four generations of winemaking history in Gevrey-Chambertin. The family’s connection to the village reaches back to the 19th century, when Paul Tortochot worked as a modest vigneron at Place des Marroniers. Today, his great-granddaughter Chantal leads the estate. A trained oenologist, she represents a new generation of Burgundy winemakers while maintaining a traditional Gevrey style marked by abundant fruit, firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Her focus is on producing wines that communicate the character of their terroir with authenticity and precision.
