Domaine Tortochot, Charmes Chambertin 2021

Domaine Tortochot’s 2021 Charmes-Chambertin is a distinguished Grand Cru Burgundy from Gevrey-Chambertin, a village long celebrated for producing some of the Côte de Nuits’ most compelling Pinot Noir. Combining expressive red-fruit character with refined structure, it offers a classic and terroir-focused interpretation of one of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations.

Tasting Notes
The wine opens with an elegant ruby-red colour and a layered nose of small red fruits, liquorice and subtle leather. On the palate, it is balanced and harmonious, with vibrant red-fruit flavours supported by soft yet present tannins and refreshing acidity. Its polished structure and Grand Cru pedigree give it excellent ageing potential, although decanting allows it to show more of its character in its youth.

Production
The wine is made from Pinot Noir grown in the celebrated Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin. Domaine Tortochot’s approach is centred on expressing the character of the terroir, with a traditional Gevrey style marked by generous fruit, firm structure and good acidity. It is matured for an average of 15 months in new oak barrels, adding depth and texture while complementing the wine’s natural fruit profile.

Food & Serving
This Charmes-Chambertin is a natural partner for roasted and braised dishes, from simply prepared roast meats to more elaborate preparations. It also pairs beautifully with game, whether rich and robust or more delicately flavoured. Serve at approximately 16–18°C and decant for 30 minutes to two hours before serving, depending on how expressive the bottle is on opening.

Producer
Domaine Tortochot has been in the Tortochot family for four generations, with the family’s roots as vignerons in Gevrey-Chambertin reaching back to the 19th century. Today, the domaine is led by Chantal Tortochot, great-granddaughter of Paul Tortochot, who brings her training as an oenologist to the estate. She represents a new generation of Burgundy winemakers committed to producing wines that clearly reflect their origins, while preserving the domaine’s traditional Gevrey identity.
