Domaine Tortochot, Chambertin 2023

Domaine Tortochot’s Chambertin 2023 is a distinguished Grand Cru Burgundy from Gevrey-Chambertin, one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated villages. Made from Pinot Noir and shaped by a traditional, terroir-focused style, it reflects the power, structure and longevity that have made Chambertin one of Burgundy’s most renowned appellations. As local legend Camille Rodier famously observed, Gevrey-Chambertin alone can make great Burgundy possible.

Tasting Notes
The nose is powerful and expressive, opening with aromas of ripe red fruit, liquorice and leather. On the palate, notes of cherry and brandy are framed by firm tannins and lively acidity, giving the wine both depth and energy. Its impressive structure is characteristic of traditional Gevrey-Chambertin, and it will benefit considerably from patience in the cellar as the fruit, oak and savoury nuances become more integrated.

Production
The wine comes from the prestigious Chambertin terroir in Gevrey-Chambertin, within Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, where Pinot Noir is shaped by the area’s classic limestone and clay soils. Domaine Tortochot follows a traditional approach aimed at expressing the character of the site, with the 2023 vintage matured for an average of 18 months in new oak barrels. The result is a full-bodied, structured Burgundy with the concentration and balance required for extended ageing.

Food & Serving
Its power and firm tannic profile make it a natural partner for rich, savoury dishes such as terrines and pâtés, roasted offal, roast pork, pork in sauce and braised veal. It also pairs beautifully with regional cheeses including Époisses and Langres. Serve at 13–14°C, and consider decanting for around one hour when enjoying the wine in its youth; older bottles are best handled gently and decanted only if necessary to remove sediment.

Producer
Domaine Tortochot has been in the Tortochot family for four generations, with the family’s roots as vignerons in Gevrey-Chambertin reaching back to the 19th century. Today, the estate is led by Chantal Tortochot, the great-granddaughter of Paul Tortochot, who combines family continuity with her training as an oenologist. Her approach focuses on producing traditionally styled Pinot Noir with generous fruit, pronounced tannins and fresh acidity—wines that express the character of Gevrey-Chambertin and reward patience.
