Description
Domaine Tortochot’s Chambertin 2020 is a powerful and distinguished expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards. Rooted in the historic winemaking village of Gevrey-Chambertin, this Pinot Noir combines concentrated red-fruit character with firm structure, savoury complexity and the capacity to develop beautifully with age.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep ruby colour, with the concentration and intensity expected from Chambertin. Its expressive nose reveals ripe red fruits alongside liquorice, leather and subtle savoury nuances. On the palate, flavours of cherry and brandy are supported by pronounced tannins, lively acidity and a full, persistent finish. This is a traditional, structured Gevrey style that benefits from patience; it can be enjoyed after careful decanting, but will reward cellaring for many years.
Production
Chambertin’s renowned terroir, situated on the Côte de Nuits, is characterised by limestone and marl soils that help give the wines both depth and freshness. Domaine Tortochot follows a traditional approach aimed at expressing the character of the vineyard and the strength of the vintage. The wine is matured for an average of 18 months in new French oak barrels, allowing the fruit, tannins and oak spice to integrate over time.
Food & Serving
Its depth and robust tannic structure make this Chambertin an excellent partner for terrines and pâtés, roasted offal, roast pork, pork in a rich sauce and braised veal. It also pairs particularly well with regional cheeses such as Époisses and Langres. Serve at 13–14°C. A young bottle will benefit from decanting for around one to two hours, while a mature vintage should be handled more gently and decanted shortly before serving if necessary.
Producer
Domaine Tortochot has been in the Tortochot family for four generations, with the family’s roots as winegrowers in Gevrey-Chambertin extending back to the 19th century. Today, the domaine is led by Chantal Tortochot, the great-granddaughter of Paul Tortochot, who combines oenological training with a commitment to traditional, terroir-driven Pinot Noir. The estate is regarded as one of the better-known domaines in Gevrey-Chambertin, a village historically recognised as one of the foundations of great Burgundy.
