Description
Domaine Tortochot’s Chambertin 2013 is a distinguished Burgundy Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards. Powerful yet refined, it captures the traditional Gevrey-Chambertin style: generous red-fruit character, firm tannins and the structure needed for graceful development. Gevrey-Chambertin has long been regarded as a benchmark of great Burgundy, with local historian and winemaker Camille Rodier famously describing it as a wine capable of making “great Burgundy” possible.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents with a deep ruby colour, evolving towards garnet with age. Its expressive nose opens with concentrated red fruit, followed by hints of liquorice and leather. On the palate, ripe cherry flavours are joined by warm brandy-like nuances, supported by powerful tannins and refreshing acidity.
This is a structured, traditionally styled Pinot Noir that benefits from patience. The 2013 vintage is now entering a mature phase, offering attractive drinking today while retaining the balance and tannic framework to develop further in the medium term when well stored.
Production
Sourced from the distinguished Chambertin terroir in Gevrey-Chambertin, this wine reflects the area’s ability to produce Pinot Noir with both intensity and elegance. Domaine Tortochot follows a traditional approach designed to preserve the character of the site, with the wine matured for an average of 18 months in new oak barrels. Specific harvesting details are not provided.
Food & Serving
The wine’s concentration and firm structure make it an excellent partner for terrines and pâtés, roasted offal, roast pork, pork in a rich sauce and braised veal. It also pairs beautifully with assertive regional cheeses such as Époisses and Langres. Serve at 13–14°C. Decanting for approximately 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly if opening the bottle in its youth, while older bottles should be handled gently and assessed shortly after opening.
Producer
Domaine Tortochot is a respected family domaine with roots in Gevrey-Chambertin stretching back four generations. The family’s history as vignerons can be traced to the 19th century, when Paul Tortochot worked as a modest winegrower at Place des Marroniers. Today, his great-granddaughter Chantal leads the domaine. A trained oenologist, she represents a new generation of Burgundian winemakers while maintaining a traditional style focused on terroir, fruit, tannin and acidity. The domaine is part of the long-established winemaking community of Gevrey-Chambertin, a village home to more than 100 wine estates.
