Domaine Tollot-Beaut, Beaune Clos Du Roi, 2023

Domaine Tollot-Beaut’s Beaune Clos du Roi 2023 is a striking Premier Cru Pinot Noir from one of Beaune’s most celebrated vineyards, combining intensity, concentration, and freshness in a beautifully poised style. Produced from old vines in a historic walled vineyard once associated with King Louis XI, it captures both the prestige of the terroir and the finesse for which Tollot-Beaut is known.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, this wine opens with an expressive, layered bouquet of dark-red cherries, wild blackberries, bitter herbs, damp autumn leaves, and subtle forest-floor notes, all woven together with finely judged oak and a hint of fresh woodland mushrooms. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet deeply flavored, with juicy dark fruit, a velvety texture, and a bright line of acidity that keeps the wine focused and lifted. Complex, supple, and built to age, the 2023 Clos du Roi should develop beautifully over time, gaining further nuance, savory depth, and tertiary complexity in bottle.

Production
The 13-hectare Clos du Roi vineyard sits in the northern part of Beaune and benefits from a south to southeast exposure, along with well-drained limestone soils that help produce wines of freshness and precision. Tollot-Beaut works with vines over 40 years old in this site, harvesting everything by hand and fully destemming the grapes before a longer élevage in 228-liter oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast duck, game birds, venison, mushroom-based dishes, or slow-cooked beef with herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to open fully.
