Domaine Sylvain Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet 1. Cru Rouge Champs Gains, 2023

A rare red from Chassagne-Montrachet’s Premier Cru Les Champs Gains, this Pinot Noir is strikingly light on its feet yet full of energy and depth. Red vines now account for only around 6% of the vineyard, and Sylvain Morey is one of just two producers making a red wine from the site—a distinctive expression of Burgundy’s historic Pinot Noir heritage.

Tasting Notes
Pale and almost transparent in the glass, the 2023 opens with delicate aromas of red berries and hints of woodland. Its subtle fragrance gives way to a lively, fresh palate.

Production
Les Champs Gains lies in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet and is planted with both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Morey’s wine spent 18 months ageing in 350- and 228-litre oak barrels, 35% of them new. Harvesting and vinification details are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly cool, around 14–16°C, with roast chicken, duck, pork or mushroom dishes. Its delicate fruit and fresh acidity also suit charcuterie and mild, earthy cheeses. A short time in a decanter can help the wine open up, though vigorous aeration is unnecessary.
