Description
Domaine Sylvain Bzikot Puligny-Montrachet 2021 is a refined Côte de Beaune Chardonnay that captures the elegance and precision for which Puligny is so prized. With its hallmark balance of depth, firmness and finesse, it stands as a beautifully expressive example of one of Burgundy’s most revered white-wine villages.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, this wine shows a bright, polished appearance that hints at its careful élevage. The nose opens with notes of almonds, white flowers, and ripe exotic fruit, lifted by a subtle mineral edge and a touch of amber-like richness.
On the palate, it is delicate yet layered, with a fine, subtle acidity that keeps the wine taut and graceful. There is real complexity here, combining creamy texture, chalky definition and lingering freshness. While already charming in youth, it should also develop nicely over the next several years, gaining more depth and nuance with bottle age.
Production
The fruit comes primarily from Domaine Sylvain Bzikot’s holdings in Puligny-Montrachet, with additional parcels in nearby Bourgogne villages, including Auxey-Duresses, Volnay and Santenay. The vines average 40 to 50 years of age, contributing concentration and complexity to the final wine.
The wine is vinified and matured for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, using both new and used wood to support the wine without overpowering its terroir. This approach helps preserve the finesse of Puligny-Montrachet while adding structure, texture and quiet depth.
Food & Serving
This is a natural match for seafood, shellfish, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, lobster, and refined dishes with mushrooms or white sauce. Serve lightly chilled, around 10-12°C, and consider brief decanting if the wine is especially closed on opening to help it unfold more fully.
Producer
Domaine Sylvain Bzikot has deep roots in Puligny-Montrachet, where the family has held vineyards for generations. Sylvain Bzikot took over the estate in 1991 and has continued to build on its strong reputation, with parcels in Puligny-Montrachet as well as in other respected Burgundy villages.
The domaine is known for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from village and Premier Cru sites, and its range includes wines from Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, Saint-Aubin, Santenay and Volnay. Its long family history and consistent quality have made it a respected name in the region.
