Description
Domaine Serene’s Two Barns Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 is a distinctive, site-driven expression of Oregon Pinot Noir, sourced from a vineyard in the western part of Dundee Hills that stands apart for its clay-rich, beautifully drained soils. Crafted from hand-harvested fruit and aged in a mix of new and used French oak, it delivers impressive depth, power, and finesse in equal measure. Since Domaine Serene has long been regarded among the elite producers of Oregon, this bottling reflects both the vineyard’s character and the winery’s reputation for world-class Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a deep, dark profile with plenty of concentration and presence. The nose is layered and expressive, offering dark cherry, baked strawberry, rhubarb tart, cinnamon, clove, juniper, mint, and a subtle stony minerality reminiscent of pumice.
The palate is full and richly textured, echoing many of the aromatic notes while adding juicy depth, firm structure, and a long, persistent finish. Despite its intensity, the wine remains balanced and composed, with enough freshness and tannic backbone to age gracefully. Drink now or cellar through 2028 and beyond.
Production
Two Barns Vineyard lies apart from Domaine Serene’s other sites in the western Dundee Hills, where the clay-heavy soils are exceptionally fertile yet well drained, helping produce a Pinot Noir with notable ripeness and structure. The grapes are harvested by hand, then vinified and matured by winemaker Michael Fay in a combination of new and used French oak barrels to preserve site character while adding complexity and polish.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural partner for roast duck, herb-crusted lamb, duck confit, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, and dishes featuring root vegetables or earthy sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to let the wine open fully and soften its structure.
