Domaine Saint-Damien’s Les Souteyrades 2020 Magnum is a striking Gigondas built on old-vine Grenache and the depth that only mature Rhône vineyards can deliver. From a domaine with roots reaching back to 1821, it combines generosity, perfume, and structure in a beautifully classical Southern Rhône style.

Tasting Notes
Deep, inviting color in the glass, this wine opens with layers of cherry liqueur, orange blossom, crushed pepper, and fragrant notes reminiscent of herbes de Provence. The palate is rich and full, yet carried by an elegant feel and a sense of purity in the fruit. The tannins are impressive and well-formed, giving the wine the backbone to age gracefully over the next two decades. In magnum, it should develop especially well, gaining extra complexity and harmony with time.

Production
Les Souteyrades comes from Domaine Saint-Damien’s vineyards in Gigondas, where the domaine farms around 22 hectares in total, including 12 hectares in the appellation. The Gigondas parcels are planted on very old vines, averaging over 70 years of age, with some plots more than a century old, and the estate has been certified organic since 2012. The combination of mature vines, Rhône terroir, and careful vineyard work gives the wine its concentration, aromatic lift, and natural balance.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, grilled beef, duck with herbs, game, or Provençal-style dishes with olives, thyme, and rosemary. Serve at around 16–18°C and, if possible, decant for one to two hours to let the aromatics open and the tannins soften.

Domaine Saint-Damien has been in the Saurel family for five generations, with the family cultivating the land since 1821. The domaine took its current name in 1979, in reference to a long-lost chapel dedicated to Saint Damien near La Beaumette, and today Romain Saurel has been in charge since 2015. With its strong foothold in Gigondas and commitment to organic viticulture, the estate has become a respected name in the Southern Rhône.
