Domaine Rois Mages, Rully Chardonnay 2022 White

Domaine Rois Mages Rully Chardonnay 2022 is a fresh and expressive white Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise, combining generous fruit with the mineral character associated with Rully. Made from Chardonnay and matured mainly in stainless steel with a smaller proportion of oak, it offers an appealing balance of roundness, floral freshness and precision.

Tasting Notes
The wine opens with a bright, fresh profile and an inviting floral character, leading into aromas and flavours of exotic fruit. On the palate, it is initially full-bodied and rounded, before developing towards a more mineral expression. Its pleasing length and freshness make it enjoyable in its youth, while the balanced structure should allow it to develop additional complexity over the next few years.

Production
The domaine’s vineyards extend across Rully and Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise, as well as Beaune in the Côte de Beaune—areas known for producing Chardonnay with both fruit character and mineral freshness. Details of the harvesting method are not specified. Vinification takes place primarily in stainless-steel tanks, accounting for 80% of production, while the remaining 20% is matured in oak barrels with regular bâtonnage to build texture and depth without overshadowing the wine’s freshness.

Food & Serving
A versatile choice for seafood and lighter poultry dishes, this Rully pairs particularly well with shellfish, lobster, goat’s cheese and roasted quail. It is also an excellent match for chanterelles in a creamy sauce. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, although a brief period of aeration in the glass can help reveal its floral and mineral nuances.

Domaine Rois Mages was established in Burgundy in the 1980s, when Anne Sophie and her husband settled in the region after falling in love with its landscapes and vineyards. Their son Felix joined the domaine in 2009 after travelling around the world; as a passionate oenologist and winemaker, he focuses on producing wines that express both Burgundian tradition and the character of their terroir. Today, the domaine covers 11 hectares across Rully, Bouzeron and Beaune.
