Description
Domaine Roger Belland’s Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos Pitois 1er Cru 2023 is a beautifully precise Burgundy Chardonnay that captures both the power and finesse of this celebrated village. Sourced from one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most respected Premier Cru sites, it combines mineral drive, layered complexity, and the kind of elegance that has made the appellation famous.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a luminous golden hue that hints at its richness and concentration. The nose opens with bright citrus—lemon and grapefruit—alongside delicate floral nuances and a subtle toasted nuttiness from oak ageing, all underscored by a clear mineral edge.
On the palate, it is finely balanced, with crisp acidity and a creamy texture that give the wine both freshness and depth. Notes of citrus, green apple, and a gentle spice lead into a long, nuanced finish with a faint smoky, stony character. Built on structure as well as precision, this 2023 has excellent ageing potential and should continue to evolve gracefully over the next several years.
Production
Clos Pitois in the Morgeot sector is a Premier Cru vineyard known for producing Chardonnay with impressive structure, minerality, and age-worthy concentration. The terroir of Chassagne-Montrachet, with its limestone-rich soils and prime exposure, gives the wine its tension and definition. Domaine Roger Belland works carefully in the vineyard and cellar to preserve the character of the site, with measured oak influence and slow, attentive vinification to shape the wine without overwhelming its purity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for refined seafood such as oysters, lobster, scallops, or grilled sole, as well as richer fish dishes like turbot or sea bass with beurre blanc. It also pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy mushroom pasta, or dishes with butter and nutty sauces. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if you want to open up its more layered aromas.
