Description

Domaine Robert Roth Crémant d'Alsace Blanc de Blancs Brut de Grès Extra Brut Bio 2022 is a finely etched organic sparkling wine that captures the mineral precision of Alsace. Crafted from Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, this extra brut Crémant offers a bone-dry, elegant profile that’s ideal for those who love Champagne-like finesse without the Champagne price tag. Sourced from sandstone (“grès”) soils, it delivers a beautifully pure and terroir-driven expression of Alsatian bubbles with a modern, precise style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Crémant d’Alsace shows a pale straw to light lemon hue with silvery highlights and a persistent, ultra-fine mousse. The bubbles are delicate yet energetic, forming a refined bead that hints at careful bottle fermentation and extended lees contact. The nose opens with fresh green apple, pear, and crisp white peach, layered with notes of citrus zest, white flowers, and a subtle brioche and almond nuance from time on lees. On the palate, the wine is dry, taut, and linear, with vibrant acidity and a distinctly stony, saline edge that reflects its sandstone origins. Flavors of lemon peel, green plum, and crunchy orchard fruit are framed by very fine bubbles and a clean, chalky finish. The extra brut dosage keeps the wine razor-sharp and refreshingly precise, making it wonderfully food-friendly. Enjoy it now for its tension and freshness, though it will hold nicely for 2–4 years, gaining a touch more creaminess and complexity while retaining its lively structure.

Production
The vineyards for this Crémant lie on classic Alsatian sandstone (“grès”) soils, which are known for giving wines lift, purity, and a marked minerality. Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois are cultivated organically, with careful canopy management and low yields to preserve concentration and natural acidity. Grapes are hand-harvested to ensure pristine fruit and gentle handling, picked in the cool of the day to lock in freshness. In the cellar, the base wines are vinified with a light touch, typically in temperature-controlled tanks to protect varietal character, followed by a traditional second fermentation in bottle (méthode traditionnelle). The wine then rests on its lees to build texture and finesse before disgorgement, with an extra brut dosage added to emphasize tension, clarity, and terroir rather than sweetness.

Food & Serving
This precise, bone-dry Crémant d’Alsace is a superb aperitif and a versatile table companion. Pair it with oysters, scallop carpaccio, sushi and sashimi, or simply fresh prawns with a squeeze of lemon to echo its saline, citrus-driven profile. It also works beautifully with goat’s cheese, light fish dishes, vegetable tempura, tartes flambées, and delicate poultry or veal in cream-based sauces. Serve well-chilled at 6–8°C to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. A short 10–15 minutes in the glass or a brief, gentle decant in a wide-bottomed carafe can help the aromatics open, but extended decanting is not necessary—this wine is all about energy and immediacy.

Producer
Domaine Robert Roth is a family estate rooted in Alsace, where generations have cultivated classic regional varieties with a strong focus on terroir. Over time, the domaine has gained recognition for its commitment to organic viticulture and for crafting wines that clearly express their origin, from still Rieslings and Pinot-based cuvées to precision-made Crémants. Within the region, Robert Roth is appreciated as a producer who bridges tradition and modernity: hand-crafted, vineyard-focused wines made with thoughtful, contemporary cellar work. Their sparkling wines, in particular, have contributed to the growing reputation of Crémant d’Alsace as one of Europe’s most exciting and characterful alternatives to Champagne.
