Description
Domaine Rémi Jobard’s Pernand-Vergelesses Sous les Cloux 2024 is a refined white Burgundy that combines crystalline freshness with understated richness. From one of the appellation’s finest terroirs, it reflects the domaine’s precise, low-intervention approach and offers an elegant alternative to the more familiar whites of neighbouring Meursault.
Tasting Notes
Bright pale gold in appearance, the wine opens with a refined bouquet of citrus, white peach, ripe apple and acacia blossom, complemented by subtle notes of hazelnut and wet limestone. On the palate, it is taut and mineral, driven by lively acidity and impressive precision, with a gently creamy texture that adds depth without weighing it down.
The finish is long and focused, marked by chalky tension and a delicate saline touch—hallmarks of the finest sites in Pernand-Vergelesses. It is already highly expressive, but its balance, acidity and restrained oak suggest that it should develop additional nutty and savoury complexity with several years of bottle age, rewarding drinking over the medium term.
Production
Made primarily from Chardonnay, the wine comes from the Sous les Cloux climat in Pernand-Vergelesses, where limestone-rich soils contribute the wine’s distinctive mineral and chalk-like character. Domaine Rémi Jobard farms organically, with no herbicides or synthetic fertilisers used since 2005, while maintaining low yields and a strong focus on healthy soils. The grapes are gently pressed before the must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels, with only a modest proportion of new oak, followed by extended ageing on the fine lees to build texture and depth while preserving freshness and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This precise white Burgundy is an excellent match for roasted or grilled fish, scallops, crab, lobster and other delicate shellfish. It also pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal, creamy mushroom dishes and mild, refined cheeses such as Comté or Brie de Meaux. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but a brief decant or 20–30 minutes in a large Burgundy glass can help reveal the wine’s aromatic complexity, particularly when enjoyed young.
Producer
Domaine Rémi Jobard is one of the most respected producers in Meursault and the wider Côte de Beaune. Rémi Jobard took over the family domaine in 1993 and subsequently converted the estate fully to organic viticulture, placing particular emphasis on low yields, soil health and an unadorned expression of each vineyard. The domaine works on a small scale and is strongly terroir-driven, with restrained use of oak and long lees ageing forming key parts of its style. Its wines are recognised for their purity, mineral precision and ability to combine Burgundy’s natural richness with remarkable freshness.
