Description
Domaine Rémi Jobard’s Meursault Les Charmes 2023 is a refined white Burgundy from one of the appellation’s most respected premier cru vineyards. Combining ripe yellow fruit, subtle oak and impressive depth, it reflects Jobard’s precise, terroir-focused approach and his commitment to organic viticulture. The domaine’s wines have become particularly admired for their elegance, balance and ability to develop beautifully in bottle.
Tasting Notes
Bright golden in appearance, this Meursault Les Charmes opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe yellow fruit and exotic fruit tones, complemented by notes of honey and finely integrated oak. On the palate, it is generous yet poised, with impressive depth, a beautifully balanced texture and a long, persistent finish. The wine’s concentration and freshness give it excellent ageing potential; it should develop greater complexity over the next 8–15 years, with careful cellaring.
Production
The grapes come from Les Charmes, one of Meursault’s finest premier cru sites, where limestone-rich soils and the appellation’s favourable exposures help produce Chardonnay of both richness and freshness. Domaine Rémi Jobard has farmed without herbicides or pesticides since 1994, with all its vineyards organically certified since 2011. The domaine is known for exceptionally long fermentations—up to two months—sometimes moving the barrels outdoors to slow the process further. The wine is then matured in oak, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront while adding subtle complexity.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 11–13°C, allowing the wine to warm slightly in the glass and reveal its full aromatic range. It is a natural partner for roast chicken, turbot, lobster, scallops, creamy fish dishes and risotto with mushrooms. A short decant of 30–45 minutes can be beneficial when drinking the wine young, although older bottles are best opened and poured carefully to preserve their freshness and nuance.
Producer
Rémi Jobard, son of Charles Jobard and cousin of François Jobard, was inspired by the achievements of these influential Meursault winemakers before taking the reins of the family domaine. Today, the estate covers approximately eight hectares, with vineyards situated directly alongside Meursault Village and premier cru plots. Since moving fully to organic viticulture, Jobard has continued to raise the quality of the domaine, earning recognition for wines marked by refinement, elegance and remarkable longevity.
