Description

Domaine Ponsot Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru Cuvée Très Vieilles Vignes 2008 is a highly sought-after Burgundy from one of the region’s most respected domaines. Sourced from exceptionally old vines in the Clos Saint-Denis site in Morey-Saint-Denis, it combines Grand Cru precision, depth, and the unmistakable elegance that has made Clos Saint-Denis one of Burgundy’s most refined vineyards.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows classic Pinot Noir purity with a bright, transparent ruby hue. The nose is layered with red cherries, wild raspberries, violets, rose petals, subtle forest floor notes, spice, and a fine chalky minerality. The palate is beautifully balanced, with vivid acidity, silky tannins, and a focused core of red berry fruit framed by spice and mineral tension. The finish is long, graceful, and highly persistent, and the 2008 vintage suggests excellent aging potential, with plenty of room to gain further complexity over time.

Production
This wine comes from Clos Saint-Denis, a Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis known for its finesse and terroir expression. The very old vines, some planted in the early 1900s, naturally yield small, concentrated grapes, resulting in depth and intensity. Domaine Ponsot is known for a meticulous and uncompromising approach to vinification, preserving purity, structure, and site character.

Food & Serving
Ideal with dishes that match its elegance and complexity, such as roast duck, quail, game birds, mushroom risotto, or beef tenderloin. Serve at 16–18°C. Decanting for about 1 to 2 hours is recommended if opened young, though older bottles should be handled more gently and tasted before extended aeration.

Producer
Domaine Ponsot is a legendary Burgundy producer with a long-standing reputation for producing age-worthy, terroir-driven wines of remarkable character. Based in Morey-Saint-Denis, the domaine has become an icon for serious Burgundy collectors and is especially admired for its work with Grand Cru sites. Its wines are widely recognized for their precision, authenticity, and exceptional longevity.
