Domaine Pierre Gélin’s Fixin La Cocarde 2022 is a rare special cuvée from one of the most respected names in Fixin, produced in tiny quantities from vines averaging 60 years of age. Crafted with a strong sense of place and traditional Burgundian precision, it reflects the domaine’s long-standing commitment to honest, terroir-driven wines.

Tasting Notes
Bright ruby in the glass, this Pinot Noir offers layered aromas of dark cherry, olive, truffle, smoke, gingerbread, and earthy notes. On the palate it is robust and rustic in style, with flavors of dark cherry, mocha, liquorice, and warm spice. The wine has a velvety texture, beautifully elegant tannins, and a lively line of acidity that brings a fresh, pomegranate-like lift to the finish. It already shows impressive class and should develop further complexity with a few years of cellaring.

Production
This cuvée comes from a very small production of just 160 cases, sourced from old vines with an average age of 60 years in Fixin, in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, with a strong focus on preserving purity and expressing the terroir. After vinification, the wine spends 21 months maturing in oak barrels, mainly French oak, before bottling. Domaine Pierre Gélin emphasizes natural, carefully managed winemaking with minimal intervention and a clear respect for the vineyard.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs well with duck, roast pigeon, game birds, mushroom dishes, grilled lamb, or slow-cooked beef. It is best served slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and may benefit from 30–60 minutes in a decanter if enjoyed young.

Domaine Pierre Gélin was founded in 1925 and is today regarded as one of the leading producers in Fixin. Now run by the founder’s son Stéphen Gélin and grandson Pierre-Emmanuel, the domaine is known for making clean, authentic wines that stay true to their origin. The estate was modernized in 2011 and continues to work with a strong ecological mindset, using hand harvesting, hand sorting, natural yeasts, and primarily French oak for maturation. With holdings across Bourgogne, Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, and even Chambertin Clos de Bèze, the domaine has earned a reputation for producing soulful wines with both character and finesse.
