Description
Domaine Muré’s Clos St Landelin Pinot Gris Côte de Rouffach Bio 2022 is a refined, organic expression of Alsace Pinot Gris that walks the line between tradition and modern drinkability. Sourced from the historic Clos St Landelin, this cuvée delivers the generous texture typical of the region while staying poised, vibrant and remarkably food-friendly. It’s a wine for those who love the classic richness of Alsace, but want it framed with clarity and freshness.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Gris shows a bright, shimmering straw-gold hue, hinting at both concentration and ripeness. The nose is layered and expressive: ripe pear and yellow plum are lifted by delicate notes of lavender and violet, with subtle herbal and earthy nuances and a faint suggestion of fresh grapeseed oil. It feels unmistakably Alsatian yet very contemporary in its precision.
On the palate, the wine is silky and almost glycerolic, offering that hallmark Pinot Gris “melt” without tipping into heaviness. Juicy, fully ripe grape and stone-fruit flavors are wrapped in a fine, balancing acidity that reins in any overt sweetness, so the impression is one of depth rather than weight. The finish is fresh, clean and gently spicy, making the wine feel almost light on its feet despite its underlying density. Enjoyable now for its pure, youthful fruit, it has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–7 years, gaining complexity in its honeyed, nutty and savory tones.
Production
Clos St Landelin lies at the southern end of the Rouffach hillside in Alsace, benefiting from a sunny, dry microclimate and limestone-rich, marl and sandstone soils that naturally favor concentrated, aromatic whites. Domaine Muré cultivates the vineyard organically (certified Bio) and with a strong respect for biodiversity, typically harvesting by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes reach the press. After gentle pressing, the must is fermented—often with temperature control to preserve aromatics—then matured on fine lees to build texture and complexity without masking the purity of fruit. The result is a classic Alsace Pinot Gris style, but rendered with a lighter touch and a keen eye on balance.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Gris is an excellent partner for rich, flavorful cuisine: think foie gras, pâtés, terrines, roasted poultry with cream-based sauces, veal in mushroom cream, or mildly spiced dishes from Asian cuisines. It also works beautifully with smoked fish, matured soft cheeses and lightly blue-veined cheeses, where its texture and gentle sweetness can play a harmonizing role. Serve at 10–12 °C to highlight both freshness and aromatics. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes in a medium-sized white wine carafe can help the wine open up its floral and herbal nuances, especially in its youth.
Producer
Domaine Muré, guardian of the Clos St Landelin, is one of the historic family estates in southern Alsace, with roots in the region dating back to 1650. Based in Rouffach, the family has built a reputation for meticulous vineyard work and for expressing the character of their steep, terraced sites—especially the famed Clos St Landelin and Grand Cru Vorbourg. Early adopters of organic and biodynamic principles in the area, they are widely respected for producing wines that combine regional typicity with precision and finesse. Their Pinot Gris from Clos St Landelin stands as a benchmark for how Alsace’s traditional richness can be rendered in a more contemporary, balanced style.
