Description
Domaine Michelot’s Meursault 2023 is a refined expression of Chardonnay shaped by a thoughtful blend of several Meursault terroirs. Rich and fruit-driven yet marked by impressive finesse, it reflects the domaine’s six-generation family heritage and its commitment to careful, responsible vineyard work.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, pale golden colour. Its bouquet is generous and inviting, with ripe orchard fruit, citrus, subtle floral nuances and delicate oak tones. On the palate, it combines Meursault’s characteristic richness and rounded texture with fresh acidity and an elegant, mineral finish. The use of restrained new oak allows the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront.
Enjoyable in its youth for its expressive fruit and balance, this Meursault should also develop added depth and complexity over the next several years when properly stored.
Production
The wine is made from grapes grown across a selection of Meursault terroirs in Burgundy, allowing Domaine Michelot to create a layered and harmonious cuvée. Vineyard treatments are deliberately limited, with carefully planned cultivation practices used to maintain healthy soils, while the best grapes are selected and harvested by hand. After gentle pressing, the must undergoes a 6–12-hour cold skin maceration before alcoholic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine then completes 100% malolactic fermentation and matures for 10–12 months in barriques, approximately 15% of which are new, followed by a further 5–6 months of ageing on the lees.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for fish and seafood, particularly grilled or pan-fried preparations, creamy sauces and shellfish, this Meursault also pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal and other delicate white meats. Serve lightly chilled at around 11–13°C. Decanting is not essential for the 2023 vintage, but a brief 20–30-minute decant can help reveal its texture and aromatic detail, especially when enjoyed young.
Producer
Domaine Michelot has remained in the Michelot family for six generations and is now established across more than 19 hectares of vineyards, including a selection of prestigious Meursault Premier Cru sites. The domaine combines traditional craftsmanship with a considered approach to vineyard management, choosing to remain independent rather than join a formal organic certification system. Its careful grape selection, restrained use of new oak and extended lees ageing are central to the polished, terroir-focused style for which the estate is known.
