Description
Domaine Michel Bouzereau Les Vignes Franches Beaune 1er Cru 2021 is a refined Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines, offering the poise, depth, and site expression that define great Beaune. Sourced from the Les Vignes Franches climat, it combines finesse with quiet intensity, making it a standout example of classic Premier Cru Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, elegant ruby-red colour. The nose opens with red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, followed by subtle floral accents, spice, forest floor, and a delicate touch of oak.
The palate is balanced and precise, with fresh acidity, fine tannins, and a layered core of red fruit, earthy minerality, and lightly toasted nuances from careful ageing. The finish is long and harmonious, and while it is already expressive now, it should gain further complexity and silkiness with a few more years in cellar.
Production
Les Vignes Franches is a well-regarded Premier Cru site in Beaune, where limestone and clay soils help shape wines with minerality, structure, and aromatic finesse. The challenging 2021 growing season in Burgundy, marked by spring frost and reduced yields, led to lower quantities but excellent fruit concentration. Vinification is handled with a restrained Burgundian approach to preserve purity, texture, and the character of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This is a natural match for roast duck, quail, veal, mushroom dishes, and classic Burgundian fare such as coq au vin or beef bourguignon. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if drinking young to let the wine open fully.
Producer
Domaine Philippe Bouzereau, often associated with the Bouzereau family’s long-standing presence in Meursault and Burgundy, is known for crafting wines with clarity, balance, and a strong sense of place. The estate has earned recognition for producing expressive, terroir-driven Burgundy that respects both tradition and finesse, with Premier Cru bottlings like this one showcasing their skill at translating vineyard identity into the glass.
