Description

Domaine Méo-Camuzet’s Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru 1999 is a beautifully mature Burgundy that combines the village’s naturally powerful character with the finesse of long, graceful ageing. From one of the appellation’s most respected domaines, this Pinot Noir shows why premier cru Nuits-Saint-Georges can deliver both structure and elegance in the same glass.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep garnet core with soft brick-red tones at the rim, a clear sign of maturity. On the nose, it opens with ripe cherry, wild strawberry and plum, layered with forest floor, tobacco, leather, gentle spice and a subtle truffle nuance, rounded out by a touch of vanilla from well-integrated oak. The palate is smooth, harmonious and fully evolved, with supple tannins and a bright, elegant acidity that still keeps the fruit alive. Flavours unfold in layers of red berries, earthy notes, fine spice and a mineral edge, finishing long, graceful and complex. At peak drinking now, it offers mature Burgundy at its most nuanced and rewarding.

Production
Aux Murgers is a premier cru site in Nuits-Saint-Georges, an appellation known for structured, savoury Pinot Noir with real depth. The vineyard’s terroir helps give the wine its firm backbone and mineral tension, while careful harvesting and traditional Burgundy vinification preserve purity of fruit, texture and site expression. In 1999, the vintage’s natural balance allowed the wine to develop excellent complexity with time in bottle.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for classic Burgundian dishes such as game birds, venison, beef with mushroom sauce, and earthy preparations featuring wild mushrooms or truffles. It also pairs beautifully with mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if needed, though for a fully mature bottle like this, a brief decant only may be preferable to preserve its delicate aromatic detail.

Producer
Domaine Méo-Camuzet is one of Burgundy’s most highly regarded domaines, with a reputation for producing wines of precision, depth and ageing potential. Based in Vosne-Romanée and closely associated with some of the Côte de Nuits’ finest terroirs, the estate has earned wide recognition for both its quality and consistency. Under the Méo family’s stewardship, it has become a benchmark producer in the region, especially for Pinot Noir of exceptional class.
