Domaine Marcel Couturier, Macon Loché Longues Terres, 2023

Domaine Marcel Couturier’s Mâcon-Loché Longues Terres 2023 is a beautifully judged white Burgundy that shows just how much character and value can be found in the Mâconnais. Sourced from the village of Loché in southern Burgundy, it offers a fuller, softer style of Chardonnay than many wines from farther north, with the added appeal of a region still wonderfully under the radar.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a lovely golden hue, hinting at its generous, ripe profile. The nose opens with aromas of acacia, camphor, vanilla, and the toasted crust of fresh sourdough, giving the wine both freshness and a subtle savory edge. On the palate, this is a broad and juicy Chardonnay layered with citrus and orchard fruit, alongside notes of citron, pomelo, peach, nectarine, pineapple, and apple. The finish is impressively long and lingering, and while it is already highly appealing now, it has the structure to develop additional complexity over the next few years.

Production
This wine comes from Loché in the Mâconnais, the southern part of Burgundy known for producing approachable, generous Chardonnay with excellent value. The wine is matured for 11 months in French oak barrels, which adds texture, gentle spice, and a touch of toast without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
A versatile food wine, it works especially well with roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, grilled fish, shellfish, mushroom risotto, and soft cheeses such as Brie or Comté. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not necessary, though a brief aeration can help open the aromatic profile if served young.
