Description

Lucien le Moine is one of Burgundy’s most talked-about boutique producers, known for crafting highly sought-after wines from some of the region’s finest 1er Cru and Grand Cru sites. This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2017 combines the depth of a prized Côte de Nuits vineyard with the house’s uncompromising, hands-on approach. Founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, Lucien le Moine has built its reputation on precision, rarity, and remarkable expression of terroir.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deep, youthful ruby colour in the glass, with the kind of concentration and energy that marks a top-class Pinot Noir from Nuits-Saint-Georges. The nose typically offers layers of dark cherry, blackberry, wild strawberry, and floral lift, alongside savoury notes of forest floor, spice, and subtle new oak. On the palate, Les Vaucrains tends to show firm structure, impressive depth, and a mineral edge, balanced by ripe fruit and polished tannins. It is a wine built for the cellar and should develop beautifully over time, gaining more nuance, earthiness, and harmony with age.

Production
Les Vaucrains is a distinguished 1er Cru site in Nuits-Saint-Georges, one of the most respected villages in the Côte de Nuits, where Pinot Noir thrives in limestone-rich soils that lend structure and tension. Lucien le Moine works with carefully selected top parcels and follows a meticulous, low-intervention approach, with handwork throughout and vinification carried out in their Beaune cellar. The wines are aged on their lees in new classic Burgundian oak barrels and bottled by hand without filtration, preserving texture, depth, and the character of the vintage.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, beef fillet, game birds, venison, or mushroom-based dishes such as wild mushroom risotto or truffle pasta. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, as this will help open the aromatics and soften the structure.

Producer
Lucien le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, whose shared passion for Burgundy led them to create one of the region’s most distinctive small-production domaines. Based in Beaune, the house quickly earned acclaim for sourcing exceptional grapes from elite Burgundy vineyards and vinifying them with a highly precise, artisanal style. Over the years, Lucien le Moine has become known for its consistency, innovation, and strong critical reputation, making it a benchmark producer for collectors and Burgundy enthusiasts.
