Description

Lucien le Moine’s Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2010 is a striking expression of Burgundy Pinot Noir, sourced from one of Morey-Saint-Denis’ most revered vineyards. Crafted by Rotem and Mounir Saouma in their uncompromising, minimal-intervention style, it captures both Grand Cru precision and the kind of haunting depth that has made Lucien le Moine one of Burgundy’s most sought-after names.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a translucent ruby colour with subtle depth and refinement rather than sheer weight. The nose can be initially restrained, then opens with dark cherry, wild strawberry, rose petal, damp earth, spice, and a faint smoky note from élevage, reflecting the brooding character noted in critical tastings. On the palate, it is structured, focused, and powerful, yet never broad or flashy. Clos Saint-Denis often brings a more introverted, mineral-driven profile than some other Grand Crus, and here that translates into layers of red and black fruit, savory earth, fine-grained tannins, and a long, slowly unfolding finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential and can continue to evolve beautifully over many years, gaining complexity and silkiness with time.

Production
Lucien le Moine works with top-tier fruit from selected Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy, and the wines are vinified in Beaune with a highly hands-on approach. The philosophy is centered on mature, carefully chosen grapes, extended lees aging, late malolactic fermentation, and bottling directly from barrel without filtration. The result is a wine that emphasizes terroir transparency, texture, and depth, with new French oak used to frame rather than overpower the fruit.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, squab, lamb loin, wild mushroom risotto, truffled poultry, or venison served with a light jus. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours, especially in its youth, to allow the wine to open and reveal its full aromatic complexity.

Producer
Lucien le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, a husband-and-wife team whose passion for Burgundy led them to create one of the region’s most distinctive micro-négociant estates. Based in Beaune, they became known for their exacting selection of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, meticulous cellar work, and fiercely individual style. Their wines have earned a strong reputation among collectors and critics for purity, intensity, and remarkable consistency.
