Description
Lucien le Moine’s Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2009 is a deeply compelling expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered vineyards, crafted in the producer’s unmistakably precise and uncompromising style. Made from Pinot Noir and sourced from a legendary Grand Cru site, it combines power, perfume, and remarkable mineral depth. This is a wine that reflects both the grandeur of Clos de Bèze and the singular vision that has made Lucien le Moine one of Burgundy’s most talked-about names.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the depth and concentration expected of a top-tier 2009 Burgundy, with a dark, resonant core and an inviting sheen. The nose is highly expressive, with blackberries, spices, white flowers, and layered mineral nuances unfolding with air.
On the palate, the wine is rich and full-throttle, yet beautifully structured, delivering intense dark fruit, savory spice, and a long, complex finish. Its balance and depth suggest excellent aging potential, and while it was already showing beautifully by the early 2020s, it should continue to evolve gracefully for years to come.
Production
This Grand Cru comes from Chambertin-Clos de Bèze in Burgundy, a historic vineyard known for producing some of the most complete and age-worthy Pinot Noirs in the region. Lucien le Moine works with a highly selective, hands-on approach, focusing on top Burgundy sites and vinifying the wines in its own Beaune cellar. The wines are aged on their lees in new classic Burgundian oak barrels, bottled by hand directly from barrel without filtration, and crafted to preserve texture, structure, and terroir character.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, beef tenderloin, game birds, or wild mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-based dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for one to two hours if drinking young to help the wine open and reveal its aromatic complexity.
Producer
Lucien le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, whose shared passion for Burgundy led them to create one of the region’s most distinctive small-scale producers. Based in Beaune, the estate has built a strong reputation for uncompromising quality, innovation, and highly individual winemaking, sourcing exceptional 1er Cru and Grand Cru parcels from across Burgundy. Over the years, the domaine has earned an impressive following among collectors and critics alike for wines of precision, depth, and authenticity.
