Domaine La Rouviole Le Revenant Carignan 2023 is a characterful red made entirely from Carignan, showcasing the grape’s generous fruit, firm tannins and Mediterranean spice. Produced in the heart of the Cru La Livinière within Minervois, it reflects the meeting of warm Mediterranean influences and the freshness of the surrounding hills. A portion of the wine is fermented in oak, adding subtle depth to its expressive, traditional profile.

Tasting Notes
Deep and richly coloured in the glass, Le Revenant opens with generous aromas of red and black fruits, complemented by gently spicy nuances. The palate is rounded and inviting, with concentrated fruit, noticeable tannins and a satisfying freshness that gives the wine structure and balance. The oak-fermented portion contributes discreet complexity without overshadowing the Carignan’s fruit-driven character. It is enjoyable in its youth, while the firm tannins and well-defined structure should allow it to develop added softness and savoury complexity over the next few years when properly stored.

Production
Domaine La Rouviole’s vineyards lie at around 300 metres above sea level on clay-limestone soils in the area known locally as the “little causse”. Surrounded by fragrant Mediterranean garrigue, the site benefits from both southern warmth and the cooling influence of the hills. Le Revenant is made from 100% Carignan; 15% of the wine is fermented in oak barrels before the components are blended and matured for seven months in stainless-steel tanks. Harvesting methods are not specified.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for grilled or roasted meats, hearty stews and richly flavoured casseroles, this Carignan also works well with spiced dishes and chocolate-based desserts. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C, to highlight its freshness and keep the fruit lively. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help the wine’s fruit and spicy character open up, particularly in its youth.

Domaine La Rouviole is situated in the heart of Cru La Livinière in the Minervois, covering almost 36 hectares, including 26 hectares of vineyards and several plots of olive trees. The domaine’s vineyards are literally surrounded by garrigue, giving the wines a strong sense of place and Mediterranean identity. Denis Arquié’s commitment to biodynamic farming has shaped the estate’s approach, and Domaine La Rouviole received Demeter certification in 2024.
