Description

Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2002 is a superb expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered Grand Cru vineyards. Made from 100% Chardonnay, it combines power, finesse, and a sense of place that has made Bâtard-Montrachet one of the great white wine sites of the world. The acclaimed 2002 vintage adds remarkable balance and depth, giving this wine a rare combination of maturity and longevity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep golden hue that reflects both age and concentration. The nose is layered and complex, with aromas of honey, ripe apple, citrus peel, toasted nuts, and a subtle touch of oak. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, yet lifted by vibrant acidity and a creamy, textured mouthfeel. The finish is long and persistent, carrying mineral tension and echoing the limestone terroir of the Côte de Beaune. While already beautifully expressive, it still has the structure to evolve further with careful cellaring.

Production
The grapes come from the limestone-rich slopes of Bâtard-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, a terroir famed for producing Chardonnay with intensity, minerality, and precision. The fruit is typically harvested by hand to preserve quality and ensure only the best grapes make it into the final blend. Vinification and maturation in oak help build texture and complexity while respecting the vineyard’s natural character.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru is an excellent match for refined dishes such as roasted turbot, lobster, scallops, or poultry in a rich cream sauce. It is best served slightly cool, around 12–14°C, to allow its aromatics and texture to show at their best. Decanting is optional but can be beneficial if the bottle is served young or to help open up the wine’s full aromatic range.

Producer
Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot is a respected Burgundy estate known for its meticulous, hands-on approach and focus on expressing site character with precision. Based in the Côte de Beaune, the domaine has built a strong reputation for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines that reflect both tradition and careful winemaking. Its Grand Cru bottlings, such as this Bâtard-Montrachet, stand among the highlights of the domaine’s portfolio.
