Description

Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées 2010 is a deeply expressive and highly sought-after Pinot Noir from one of Vosne-Romanée’s most distinctive premier cru sites. Perched high on the slope just above the grands crus, Aux Brûlées combines generous ripeness with tension and elegance, making it a wine of remarkable depth and character. The 2010 vintage highlights the parcel’s classic Burgundian precision, offering both power and finesse in equal measure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a vivid ruby core with subtle garnet reflections as it begins to evolve. The nose is layered and seductive, with ripe cherry, raspberry, and blackberry lifted by floral notes of violet and rose petal, alongside nuances of spice, earthy forest floor, and a faint smoky undertone. On the palate, it is broad and concentrated, yet finely shaped, with polished tannins and lively acidity giving the wine real drive. The fruit is dense and beautifully integrated with the savory, mineral side of the vineyard, leading to a long, precise finish. While already compelling with age, this wine has excellent aging potential and can continue to develop complexity for many years, gaining more tertiary notes of truffle, dried flowers, and woodland spice.

Production
The grapes come from the Aux Brûlées parcel in Vosne-Romanée, a south-facing site high on the slope where sun exposure and altitude create a compelling balance of ripeness and freshness. Domaine Jean Grivot is known for careful vineyard work, including a relatively late harvest to ensure full phenolic maturity and a wine with depth rather than a lean, overly mineral profile. In the cellar, the fruit is hand sorted, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and matured for around 18 months in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak adjusted according to the vintage to preserve purity and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes that echo its elegance and depth, such as roast duck, venison, pigeon, veal, or mushroom-based cuisine. It also works well with truffle dishes, aged hard cheeses, or braised poultry. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening young; older bottles may only need a gentle splash decant or can be poured carefully straight from the bottle.

Producer
Domaine Jean Grivot is a respected family estate in Vosne-Romanée with a long-standing reputation for producing wines of precision, balance, and strong site expression. Under the stewardship of the Grivot family, the domaine has become one of the reference producers in the Côte de Nuits, particularly for its holdings in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and closely related appellations. The estate is widely admired for combining traditional Burgundian sensibility with meticulous modern viticulture and cellar work, resulting in wines that consistently rank among the most elegant and ageworthy in the region.
