Description

Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots 2003 is a standout Premier Cru from one of the most admired sites on the border of Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée. It combines the structure and depth of Nuits with the perfume and finesse associated with Vosne, making it a beautifully layered Pinot Noir with real pedigree and historical cachet.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby core with mature garnet reflections, hinting at both concentration and development. The nose is complex and expressive, offering dark berries, black cherry and plum, alongside notes of tea leaf, dried roses, spice, earthy nuance and subtle oak-derived accents. On the palate it is rich and tightly woven, with ripe but present tannins, a fresh line of acidity and a long, mineral finish. The 2003 vintage should now be entering a graceful mature phase, with the fruit softening and tertiary complexity becoming more pronounced, while still retaining enough structure for further aging if well stored.

Production
Les Boudots is a prized Premier Cru vineyard located in the northern sector of Nuits-Saint-Georges, directly adjacent to Vosne-Romanée. The site’s limestone and clay soils, combined with deeply rooted, partly very old vines, yield small berries with intense aromatic concentration. Domaine Jean Grivot farms and vinifies the wine in a style that emphasizes purity and site expression, using full destemming, spontaneous fermentation and élevage in 30–60% new French oak to add subtle spice and texture without overpowering the terroir.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for duck breast, roast game birds, lamb, mushroom dishes and richer preparations such as beef tenderloin or coq au vin. It should be served at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially for older bottles, to allow the aromatics to open and the structure to soften.

Producer
Domaine Jean Grivot is a respected family estate in Burgundy with a strong reputation for producing precise, terroir-driven Pinot Noir from some of the Côte de Nuits’ most coveted vineyards. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine is particularly well regarded for its disciplined viticulture and elegant, ageworthy wines. Over the years, it has become one of the benchmark producers for those seeking a refined expression of Burgundian Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites.
