Description

Domaine Jean Grivot’s Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is one of the most coveted Premier Cru wines from the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, right on the border with Vosne-Romanée. This superb site brings together the depth and structure of Nuits with the perfume and finesse often associated with Vosne, making it a wine of both power and elegance. In 2009, a warm and generous vintage, it offers particularly fine ripeness, concentration, and charm.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Aux Boudots typically shows a deep ruby color with bright garnet highlights as it begins to evolve. The nose is immediately captivating, opening with layers of dark cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and black plum, lifted by floral accents of rose petals and violet, plus subtle notes of tea, spice, smoke, and gentle oak. On the palate, the wine is structured yet silky, with concentrated fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a precise line of freshness that keeps everything balanced. It is generous without feeling heavy, finishing long and refined with lingering spice, mineral nuance, and savory complexity. While approachable with careful cellaring, this is a wine with excellent aging potential and will continue to gain depth and nuance over many years.

Production
Aux Boudots lies on a well-drained slope at the northern limit of Nuits-Saint-Georges, where the soils and exposition favor ripe Pinot Noir with notable aromatic detail and structure. At Domaine Jean Grivot, the vineyard is farmed with great attention to old-vine material, including parcels of exceptionally mature vines, some over a century old, helping to produce low yields and remarkable concentration. Vinification is designed to preserve purity and terroir expression, with measured oak use that supports rather than masks the fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast duck, game birds, pheasant, venison, beef fillet, and mushroom-based dishes such as risotto or braised morels. It also works well with aged cheeses like Époisses or Comté. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromas to fully open.

Producer
Domaine Jean Grivot is a respected family estate in Vosne-Romanée with a long-standing reputation for producing precise, ageworthy Burgundy. Over the years, the domaine has become especially admired for its expressive wines from top sites across the Côte de Nuits, combining traditional Burgundian character with careful modern cellar work. Its Premier Cru holdings, including Aux Boudots, are among the most highly regarded in the region, and the estate is widely recognized for consistency, finesse, and impressive ageing potential.
