Description
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots 2006 is a highly sought-after Premier Cru from one of the most prized sites on the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, where the slope rises toward Vosne-Romanée. It captures the power and structure of Nuits while layering in the perfume and finesse that make Vosne so admired, with much of the estate’s old-vine material bringing extra depth and concentration.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, elegant Pinot Noir profile with plenty of dark and red fruit nuance. Expect aromas of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and black fruit, lifted by floral notes of rose petals and violet, then threaded with tea leaf, exotic spice, subtle smoke, and a touch of oak-derived vanilla and toast.
On the palate, Aux Boudots is layered and structured, yet remarkably silky in texture. The fruit is generous and ripe without feeling heavy, supported by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity that carry the wine through a long, refined finish. With bottle age, it develops greater complexity, adding forest floor, undergrowth, earthy spice, and subtle animal notes.
Production
Aux Boudots sits on a well-drained hillside terroir at the border of Vosne-Romanée, an enviable position that helps shape its distinctive combination of intensity and perfume. Domaine Jean Grivot’s old vines, some over 100 years old, contribute concentration and precision, while the winemaking typically aims to preserve the purity of Pinot Noir and the character of the site, with measured oak use supporting rather than overpowering the fruit.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted duck, pigeon, game birds, lamb, beef tenderloin, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as truffle-rich recipes and fine hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and, for maximum expression, decant gently for about 1–2 hours if the wine is still youthful; older bottles may only need a short aeration or careful opening shortly before serving.
Producer
Domaine Jean Grivot is one of Burgundy’s respected family domaines, long associated with precise, terroir-driven wines from some of the region’s finest vineyards. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the estate has built a strong reputation for depth, elegance, and consistency, and is especially admired for its holdings in top Côte de Nuits sites, where it has earned recognition among Burgundy enthusiasts for producing wines with both immediate appeal and impressive aging potential.
