Description

Domaine Jean Collet & Fils Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 2024 is a refined Premier Cru Chardonnay from one of Chablis’s most highly regarded vineyard sites. Known for its combination of mineral precision, freshness and subtle depth, Montée de Tonnerre is often considered among the finest expressions of Chablis outside the Grand Cru slopes. Domaine Jean Collet has been rooted in the appellation since 1952, with vineyards on both sides of the Serein River.

Tasting Notes
The wine is expected to show a bright, pale gold colour. On the nose, classic Chablis aromas of citrus, green apple and white flowers are complemented by the distinctive flinty, mineral character associated with Montée de Tonnerre. The palate is fresh and focused, with crisp acidity, fine texture and a long, mineral finish, accompanied by notes of lemon, orchard fruit and subtle saline nuances. As a Premier Cru Chablis, this wine offers both immediate freshness and the structure to develop in bottle. With careful cellaring, it can gain additional complexity and develop more rounded, nutty and gently honeyed tones over the coming years.

Production
The grapes come from the Montée de Tonnerre Premier Cru vineyard in Chablis, a site renowned for its limestone-rich soils and cool continental climate. Domaine Jean Collet & Fils farms its vineyards according to the principle of lutte raisonnée, using a considered approach that aims to preserve the vitality of the vines and allow the character of the terroir to shine through. Specific harvesting and vinification details for the 2024 vintage have not been provided.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C to allow the wine’s aromas and texture to fully develop. It is an excellent match for oysters, mussels, scallops, grilled fish and seafood with lemon or herbs, while its mineral freshness also complements goat cheese, poultry and delicate cream-based dishes. Decanting is not essential, although a short period of aeration in the glass or a small decanter can help reveal additional aromatic depth, particularly when enjoyed young.

Producer
Domaine Jean Collet & Fils was founded in 1952, and the estate was later strengthened by the involvement of the founder’s son, Gilles. The winery and cellars are located in the heart of Chablis, while its 37 hectares extend across some of the region’s finest slopes on both banks of the Serein River. The estate includes Grand Cru, Premier Cru, Chablis and Petit Chablis vineyards, and its commitment to lutte raisonnée reflects a focus on expressing the distinctive character of Chablis rather than masking it.
