Description
Domaine Jean Claude Ramonet’s Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers 2003 is a beautifully expressive Chardonnay from one of Burgundy’s most revered white-wine addresses. From a monopole parcel in Chassagne-Montrachet, it combines the warmth of the vintage with the domaine’s hallmark precision, giving a wine that is both generous and finely balanced.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a mature golden hue that reflects both its age and the sunny 2003 vintage. The nose opens with ripe pear and apple, lifted by hints of honey, spice, and subtle toasted nuances.
The palate is rich and layered, with a rounded texture and a gentle creamy depth balanced by discreet acidity. It finishes long and persistent, with enough structure and freshness to suggest excellent drinking now and the ability to continue evolving gracefully for a while longer.
Production
Made from Chardonnay grown in the Les Vergers Premier Cru monopole in Chassagne-Montrachet, the wine benefits from one of Burgundy’s finest limestone-rich terroirs, prized for producing wines with both breadth and tension. The grapes were harvested in the warm 2003 vintage, and vinified in the traditional Burgundian style to preserve the vineyard’s character while allowing for complexity and age-worthy balance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, lobster, pan-seared scallops, creamy mushroom dishes, and mature hard cheeses. Serve it at around 12–14°C; decanting is not essential, but an hour in a carafe can help open up its aromatic layers if the bottle is showing signs of bottle age.
Producer
Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is one of the benchmark estates in Chassagne-Montrachet, with a long-standing reputation for producing some of Burgundy’s most sought-after white wines. The domaine has earned near-legendary status for its precision, depth, and aging potential, and the Ramonet name remains closely associated with excellence in both Chassagne-Montrachet and the wider Côte de Beaune.
