Description

Domaine Jacques Prieur’s Volnay Clos des Santenots Monopole 2023 is a refined Burgundy Pinot Noir from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most distinguished sites. Produced from a single domaine-owned parcel, it combines Volnay’s celebrated elegance and floral character with the depth and structure associated with the Santenots climat.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a bright ruby colour, with the potential to deepen gently with age. Its bouquet is typically expressive and finely detailed, showing red berries, violet, rose petal and subtle earthy and spicy nuances. On the palate, the 2023 vintage offers a graceful balance of supple fruit, fresh acidity and polished tannins, with flavours of raspberry, red cherry and delicate savoury spice leading to a persistent finish. Although approachable in its youth, the wine should develop added complexity over the next 8–15 years when well stored. With bottle age, expect the fruit to evolve towards dried flowers, forest floor and more nuanced savoury tones.

Production
The Clos des Santenots is a highly regarded Premier Cru climat located in the Meursault commune, on the southern side of the Côte de Beaune, where the limestone and clay soils provide both finesse and structure. As a monopole, the vineyard is exclusively owned and managed by Domaine Jacques Prieur. The Pinot Noir grapes are carefully harvested and sorted before fermentation and maturation in oak, with the exact proportion of whole clusters and new oak varying according to the vintage and the domaine’s cellar decisions.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–17°C, ideally after allowing the wine to breathe briefly in the glass. Decanting is not essential for the young 2023 vintage, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help open its floral and red-fruited aromas; older bottles are best decanted carefully only to remove sediment. Pair it with roast poultry, duck, veal, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, Burgundy-style beef or gently seasoned charcuterie.

Producer
Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s historic domaines, based in Meursault and recognised for its collection of premier and grand cru vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Its wines are valued for expressing the character of their individual climats while combining traditional Burgundy craftsmanship with careful modern cellar work. The domaine’s monopole holdings, including Clos des Santenots, are among its most distinctive and sought-after expressions.
