Description
Domaine Jacques Prieur’s Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 2023 is a refined white Burgundy from one of the appellation’s most distinguished Premier Cru sites. Situated on the border with Meursault, Les Combettes is known for producing wines that combine Puligny’s elegance with Meursault-like richness, while biodynamic farming and precise cellar work allow the limestone terroir to shine.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with a bright, pale appearance and an expressive nose of white flowers, ripe citrus and subtle hazelnut. On the palate, it is taut and refined, supported by refreshing acidity, chalky minerality and a poised, well-balanced structure.
A long, persistent finish brings together citrus freshness and delicate nutty nuances. With its balance, concentration and mineral backbone, the wine should develop additional complexity with several years of bottle age, while remaining approachable in its youth when served with a little aeration.
Production
The Les Combettes vineyard lies on limestone-rich slopes at the border of Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, a terroir well suited to producing Chardonnay of both precision and depth. Domaine Jacques Prieur farms biodynamically with a strong focus on expressing the individual character of the site. The wine is fermented from whole clusters in oak barrels using naturally occurring yeasts, then matured for approximately 12–18 months, partly in new oak, before further bottle ageing to bring balance and complexity.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 11–13°C. Its fresh acidity and chalky minerality make it an excellent partner for shellfish, grilled or poached fish, lobster, scallops and poultry in a light cream sauce; it also pairs beautifully with dishes featuring mushrooms or delicate alpine cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but 20–30 minutes of gentle aeration in a carafe can help reveal the wine’s floral and nutty nuances, particularly in its youth.
Producer
Based in Meursault, Domaine Jacques Prieur owns parcels in some of the Côte de Beaune’s most prestigious climats. Under the direction of Nadine Gublin and the Jacques Prieur team, the domaine follows biodynamic principles and places particular emphasis on terroir expression, precision and balance. Its holdings across leading Burgundy appellations give the estate a significant position in the region and allow it to craft wines that reflect the distinct character of each vineyard.
