Description
Domaine Jacques Prieur Musigny 2021 is a rare red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards. Made from Pinot Noir, it combines the finesse and perfume associated with Musigny with the precision of a distinguished Meursault-based domaine. The 2021 vintage is particularly prized for its freshness, delicacy and classical Burgundy character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright ruby colour, often with youthful violet highlights. Its refined bouquet is shaped by aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, red cherry and rose petal, complemented by subtle notes of forest floor, spice and finely integrated oak. The palate is elegant and silky rather than powerful, with pure red-fruit flavours, vibrant acidity and beautifully polished tannins. A long, graceful finish reveals impressive mineral detail and savoury complexity. With careful cellaring, this Grand Cru should develop further over the next 10–20 years or more.
Production
Musigny is a highly esteemed Grand Cru climat in Chambolle-Musigny, known for its limestone-rich soils, gentle exposures and exceptional ability to produce Pinot Noir of perfume, finesse and depth. The 2021 growing season resulted in a relatively small crop after frost and other challenging conditions, but careful vineyard work and selection produced wines marked by freshness and aromatic clarity. The grapes are vinified with the precision expected of a top Burgundy estate and matured in French oak, allowing the wine’s delicate fruit and terroir expression to remain at the centre.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–17°C after allowing the wine to come gradually to temperature. It is a natural partner for refined dishes such as roast pigeon, duck breast, veal, mushroom risotto, truffle-based preparations and poultry with a light jus. Young bottles benefit from gentle aeration in a Burgundy glass or a short decant of around 30–60 minutes; mature bottles should be handled carefully and decanted only if necessary to remove sediment.
Producer
Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s historic estates, with roots dating back to the late 19th century and vineyards extending across many of the region’s most prestigious appellations. Based in Meursault, the domaine is known for its rare holdings in both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, including Grand Cru sites such as Musigny. Its wines are valued for their combination of meticulous craftsmanship, classic Burgundy elegance and clear expression of individual vineyard terroirs.
