Description

Domaine Jacques Prieur’s Meursault Clos de Mazeray Monopole 2022 is a distinguished white Burgundy from a vineyard owned exclusively by the domaine. Made from Chardonnay, it combines Meursault’s renowned richness with the precision and structure of a carefully defined single-vineyard cuvée, offering both immediate appeal and excellent cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Bright straw-yellow in appearance, the wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe pear, white peach and citrus, complemented by subtle floral tones and delicate notes of toasted almond and well-integrated oak. The 2022 vintage brings generous fruit and roundness, while the wine retains the mineral freshness associated with Meursault. On the palate, it is full-bodied and smooth, with flavours of orchard fruit, lemon zest and creamy hazelnut supported by lively acidity. A refined, lightly saline finish adds length and balance. It can be enjoyed young for its generous texture, but should develop additional nuance and complexity over the next 8–12 years when properly stored.

Production
Clos de Mazeray is a monopole vineyard, meaning the entire climat is under the ownership of Domaine Jacques Prieur. Situated in Meursault on limestone-rich Burgundian soils, the site provides a balance of natural freshness and depth. The Chardonnay grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with careful attention to preserving the vineyard’s character, followed by maturation in oak barrels, where the wine gains texture and complexity while its fruit and mineral profile remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 11–13°C, allowing the wine to open in the glass before serving. It is an excellent match for roast chicken, veal, lobster, crab, scallops and richer fish dishes, as well as creamy sauces, mushroom preparations and mature soft cheeses. Decanting is not essential for a young vintage, but 20–30 minutes in a decanter can help reveal its aromas; older bottles are best poured carefully to preserve their balance and freshness.

Producer
Founded in 1868, Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates, with vineyards spanning many of the Côte de Beaune’s and Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated appellations. The domaine is particularly known for its rare monopole holdings and its precise, age-worthy expressions of Burgundy’s individual climats. Its Meursault Clos de Mazeray is a notable example of the estate’s commitment to showcasing terroir through refined Chardonnay.

It has the round, generous texture you expect from the village, but there is also plenty of freshness underneath. Ripe orchard fruit, soft citrus, gentle oak, and a light nutty touch come together with a smooth, long finish.
