Description
Domaine Jacques Prieur Corton-Bressandes 2023 is a distinguished red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards. Made from Pinot Noir, it combines the elegance associated with Corton with the depth and structure expected from a Grand Cru wine. The Corton hillside has been celebrated for centuries and is Burgundy’s only Grand Cru appellation producing both red and white wines.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage is expected to show a deep ruby colour with youthful purple highlights. On the nose, aromas of ripe red and dark berries are likely to mingle with violet, subtle spice and the earthy, savoury nuances characteristic of mature Burgundy terroir.
On the palate, Corton-Bressandes typically offers a refined balance of concentrated fruit, fresh acidity and firm but polished tannins. The wine should develop greater complexity with bottle age, revealing notes of forest floor, leather, spice and mineral undertones over time. It is approachable with aeration, but has the structure to evolve gracefully for many years.
Production
The Corton-Bressandes climat lies on the renowned Corton hill, where limestone-rich soils and well-drained slopes provide ideal conditions for structured, long-lived Pinot Noir. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected before vinification, with the precise cellar approach determined by the vintage and parcel. Maturation in oak helps shape the wine’s texture and complexity while allowing the fruit and distinctive character of the site to remain at the forefront.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–17°C. This Burgundy is a natural match for roast duck, veal, game birds, beef tenderloin and dishes featuring wild mushrooms. It also pairs beautifully with refined poultry preparations and moderately mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential for a young bottle, but 30–60 minutes of gentle aeration can help open the wine; older vintages are best handled carefully to preserve their delicate aromas.
Producer
Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s historic estates, with roots in the early 20th century and holdings across several of the region’s most sought-after appellations. Based in Meursault, the domaine is particularly known for producing wines from prestigious Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites in both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Its Corton-Bressandes is a fine expression of the estate’s focus on precise winemaking and the distinctive character of Burgundy’s great climats.
