Domaine Jacques Prieur, Clos de Vougeot 2020

Domaine Jacques Prieur’s Clos de Vougeot 2020 is a distinguished Burgundy Grand Cru from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most historic walled vineyards. Made from Pinot Noir, it combines vivid cherry fruit and refined finesse with the depth, structure and spicy power expected from Clos de Vougeot. The 2020 vintage brings particularly impressive concentration while preserving freshness and balance.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby-red colour. Its expressive nose opens with inviting aromas of fresh cherry, followed by layers of toasted oak, warm spice and liquorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and intense, with generous red-fruit flavours, a beautiful enveloping texture and a fresh, energetic character. Rich, powerful and spicy tannins provide a firm structure, suggesting excellent ageing potential. While approachable with sufficient aeration, this Clos de Vougeot should develop greater complexity over the next 10–20 years, with careful cellaring likely to reveal more savoury, earthy and tertiary notes.

Production
Clos de Vougeot is a celebrated Grand Cru climat in the Côte de Nuits, known for its historic stone walls and a complex terroir of limestone and clay soils. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. Approximately 45% of the bunches are retained as whole clusters, while the remainder is destemmed. Fermentation takes place for around 20 days at controlled temperatures in open wooden vats, with twice-daily pump-overs during the active phase of alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is completed fully, and the wine is matured entirely in oak barrels.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to come close to cellar temperature. Its richness and structure make it an excellent partner for roast duck, pheasant, venison, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended when enjoying the wine young, both to soften the tannins and to allow its layered aromas to unfold.
