Description
Domaine Jacques Prieur Beaune Clos de la Féguine Monopole 2023 is a rare single-estate Burgundy from one of the domaine’s three Clos monopoles. Crafted from Pinot Noir, it combines the elegance of Beaune with impressive concentration, smoky spice and polished, velvety tannins. The history of Domaine Jacques Prieur dates back to 1868 in Bligny-lès-Beaune, and the estate remains dedicated to expressing Burgundy’s most distinguished terroirs.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows an intense ruby-red colour with deep purple highlights. Its bouquet opens with smoky, spicy and toasted notes, gradually revealing expressive aromas of dark fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant as the wine takes in air.
On the palate, it is supple yet flavourful, with a rich core of black fruit supported by smooth, velvety tannins and a lingering finish. Although approachable with decanting, the wine has the structure and concentration to develop further in bottle over the coming years, gaining additional complexity and harmony.
Production
The grapes come from the Clos de la Féguine, a rare monopole vineyard in Beaune, Burgundy, where the region’s limestone and clay-based soils provide both freshness and depth. Fermentation takes place with a 20-day maceration in open oak vats at controlled temperature, with twice-daily punch-downs during alcoholic fermentation. The wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation before ageing for 17 months in new oak barrels, adding subtle toast and spice to the dark-fruited profile.
Food & Serving
This refined Burgundy is an excellent match for roasted duck, beef fillet, venison, mushroom-based dishes and richly flavoured poultry. Serve at around 16–18°C to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. Decant for approximately 30–60 minutes when enjoying the wine young, allowing its smoky and dark-fruited aromas to unfold.
