Description

Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey Saint Denis Trilogie 2021 is a refined, village-level Burgundy that captures the essence of Morey-Saint-Denis in a single glass. Sourced from three complementary parcels within the commune, this cuvée is crafted to show both the finesse and underlying structure that have made this village so sought-after among Pinot Noir lovers. The 2021 vintage, marked by low yields and a classic, cooler profile, brings an extra lift of freshness and precision to this bottling.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine displays a luminous ruby color with garnet highlights, reflecting its delicate Pinot Noir extraction. The nose opens with vivid red berries—think wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry—layered with rose petals, subtle spice, and a gentle earthiness typical of Morey-Saint-Denis. Hints of crushed stone, dried herbs, and a touch of oak-derived vanilla or toast add complexity without overwhelming the fruit. On the palate, the Trilogie 2021 is precise and finely etched, offering a medium body with silky yet present tannins and a line of vibrant acidity that keeps everything fresh and mouthwatering. Flavors of red currant, cherry, and cranberry are joined by notes of forest floor, tea leaf, and a faint savory undertone, giving the wine real depth despite its elegance. The finish is long, pure, and lifted, suggesting enjoyable drinking in its youth but also the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years, depending on storage conditions.

Production
The Morey Saint Denis Trilogie is sourced from three distinct village-level parcels within the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, combining slightly different exposures and soils—typically a mix of limestone, marl, and clay—that give both aromatic lift and structural backbone to the wine. The domaine is known for careful vineyard work, with an emphasis on low yields and meticulous, predominantly manual harvesting to bring in only perfectly ripe, healthy Pinot Noir grapes. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, often with a proportion of whole clusters to enhance aromatic complexity and tannin finesse, followed by élevage in French oak barrels (a modest proportion new) that respects the purity of fruit and terroir rather than masking it.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red Burgundy that shines with refined yet flavorful dishes: roast chicken with herbs, duck breast, veal, pork tenderloin, and dishes featuring mushrooms or truffles are particularly well-suited. It also pairs beautifully with lighter game birds, charcuterie, and aged but not overly powerful cheeses such as Comté or Tomme. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its delicacy and aromatic detail. In its youth, a gentle decant of about 30–45 minutes can help the wine open up, while more mature bottles may simply benefit from being poured carefully to avoid sediment.

Producer
Domaine Hubert Lignier is one of the benchmark estates in the Côte de Nuits, based in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis and revered for its uncompromising approach to quality. The family’s roots in the region date back several generations, and over time they have built a reputation for expressive, age-worthy Pinot Noir that captures the individual character of each terroir. Today, the domaine is considered a reference point for classic, terroir-driven Burgundy, with holdings in some of the most prized vineyards of Morey-Saint-Denis and neighboring villages. Their wines are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike for their balance of power, finesse, and transparent expression of place.
