Description

Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin Clos du Meix Blanc 2022 is a refined Premier Cru white Burgundy from one of the true benchmarks of Saint-Aubin. Sourced from hard limestone soils within the walled Clos du Meix, this cuvée delivers a precise, mineral-driven expression of Chardonnay that will appeal to lovers of tense, chiselled whites. The 2022 vintage shows both clarity and generosity, weaving citrus, stone, and a touch of flint into a wine that is already charming yet clearly built on serious terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Clos du Meix presents a pale straw to light gold hue, with a luminous, crystalline brightness that hints at its mineral core. The nose is focused and penetrating, marked by notes of fresh lemon zest, crushed wet stones, and struck flint, with subtle layers of white flowers and a whisper of green almond emerging as it opens. On the palate, this Saint-Aubin is beautifully poised, with a fine, linear thread of acidity that carries citrus and saline notes over a compact, stony texture. You’ll find flavours of lemon peel, grapefruit pith, and just-ripe orchard fruits wrapped around a taut mineral backbone. The finish is clean and precise, though still a touch reserved in its youth, suggesting there is more to be revealed with a bit of time in bottle. Enjoyable now for its energy and clarity, it should evolve gracefully over the next 5–8 years, gaining additional complexity and softness around the edges.

Production
Clos du Meix is a walled Premier Cru vineyard in Saint-Aubin, rooted in hard limestone soils that naturally produce wines of tension, lift, and pronounced minerality. The domaine works with meticulous attention in the vines, favouring careful, often manual work to control yields and preserve the health of the grapes, which are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to retain freshness and precision. In the cellar, Hubert Lamy follows a minimalist, terroir-driven approach: gentle pressing, fermentation with minimal intervention, and élevage in carefully selected oak (typically with a restrained proportion of new wood) allow the character of the limestone and the cool Saint-Aubin climate to dominate, rather than heavy winemaking signatures.

Food & Serving
This Premier Cru Saint-Aubin is a natural partner for refined seafood such as oysters, scallops, grilled prawns, or simply prepared white fish, as well as poultry in light cream or butter sauces. It also works beautifully with goat’s cheese, young Comté, or vegetable dishes highlighting asparagus, fennel, or mushrooms. Serve at around 10–12°C (50–54°F) for optimal balance between freshness and aromatic expression. A light decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply opening the bottle a little in advance, will help the wine loosen up its initially reserved character and reveal more of its flinty, stone-driven complexity.

Producer
Domaine Hubert Lamy, based in the village of Saint-Aubin, is one of Burgundy’s benchmark producers for precise, terroir-focused Chardonnay and increasingly admired Pinot Noir. The Lamy family has been growing vines since the 17th century, but it was Hubert Lamy, and now his son Olivier, who elevated the estate to elite status through rigorous vineyard work, lower yields, and a strong belief in expressing individual climats. Particularly renowned for their high-density plantings and detailed understanding of Saint-Aubin’s limestone-rich slopes, the Lamys have played a key role in redefining the appellation from an insiders’ secret to a serious alternative to more famous Côte de Beaune villages, regularly earning critical praise for the purity, energy, and ageworthiness of their wines.
