Description
Domaine Hubert Beck’s Alsace Pinot Gris Frankstein 2019 comes from the celebrated Frankstein vineyard area around Dambach-la-Ville, where Pinot Gris is known for combining ripe fruit with a distinctive mineral character. It is an expressive, full-flavoured white wine marked by exotic fruit, mature fruit notes and a subtle smoky nuance. The wine reflects the modern development of the estate, which built a new winery and invested in temperature-controlled vinification facilities in 1997.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright golden appearance, typical of a mature Alsace Pinot Gris. Its aroma is generous and inviting, with impressions of exotic fruit and ripe orchard fruit accompanied by a delicate smoky character.
On the palate, it is rounded and flavourful, with concentrated ripe-fruit flavours balanced by a gentle savoury, smoky note. The 2019 vintage is enjoyable now, while its richness and structure should allow it to develop further over the next few years when stored in a cool, dark cellar.
Production
The grapes come from the Frankstein vineyard area around Dambach-la-Ville in northern Alsace, a site associated with expressive, mineral-driven wines. Domaine Hubert Beck owns approximately 35 hectares of vineyards, all located around the town. The estate’s modern winery, built in 1997, is equipped with advanced pressing technology and temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermentation tanks, allowing the Pinot Gris to be handled with precision and to preserve its aromatic character. Specific harvesting methods are not provided.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Gris is well suited to roasted poultry, pork, creamy mushroom dishes, mildly spiced Asian cuisine and rich fish such as salmon or monkfish. Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving can help its exotic fruit and smoky nuances emerge.
Producer
Domaine Hubert Beck is based in the idyllic Alsatian town of Dambach-la-Ville and farms around 35 hectares of vineyards in the surrounding area. In 1997, Hubert Beck built a completely new winery and equipped it with modern pressing and vinification technology, including excellent temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermentation tanks. This combination of local vineyard holdings and carefully controlled cellar work places the domaine firmly among the producers representing the contemporary character of northern Alsace.
