Description
Domaine Henri Richard Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 is a biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most coveted Grand Cru sites. Made from old vines and crafted with a low-intervention approach, it captures the power, finesse, and classic depth that have made Mazoyères-Chambertin such a prized name in Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour with impressive concentration and purity. The bouquet is layered and expressive, opening with dark cherries, wild forest berries, violet, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is rich and structured yet remarkably refined, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long mineral finish that gives it excellent definition.
The 2019 vintage brings ripe fruit, aromatic intensity, and beautiful balance, making the wine both immediately appealing and clearly built for the cellar. While it can be enjoyed with some air now, it should develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years, gaining even more complexity and nuance with time.
Production
The vines grow on old parcels in the southern part of Mazoyères-Chambertin, where limestone and clay soils provide both structure and mineral tension. Farming is biodynamic, with a strong respect for the natural rhythm of the vineyard, and the grapes are harvested with the aim of preserving freshness and precision. Vinification follows a minimal-intervention philosophy: spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, maturation in traditional Burgundy oak barrels for 12–18 months, and no fining or filtration to keep the wine as authentic and expressive as possible.
Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for refined dishes with depth and savoury character, such as roast duck, pigeon, game birds, beef fillet, or earthy mushroom-based cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 1–2 hours if opening young, so the wine can fully unfold in the glass.
