Description
Domaine Guillemard-Clerc Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Folatières” 2023 is a finely judged expression of one of Puligny’s most celebrated Premier Cru sites. Grown on a high, east-facing limestone slope above the village, it combines precision, mineral drive, and refined Chardonnay depth in a style that speaks clearly of both place and vintage.
Tasting Notes
Pale golden in the glass, the wine opens with elegant aromas of citrus, white flowers, ripe green apple, hazelnut, and a subtle touch of toasted oak. The nose is refined and layered, with the hallmark tension and brightness that make Puligny-Montrachet so sought after.
On the palate it is rich yet taut, with a creamy texture balanced by a chalky, mineral backbone. The mid-palate has real lift and definition, and the finish is long, fresh, and precise. This is a Premier Cru with immediate appeal, but also the structure to develop beautifully over the next 8–12 years.
Production
The fruit comes from Les Folatières, the largest and one of the most iconic Premier Cru vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, planted on a southeast-facing slope with predominantly limestone soils. The 2023 vintage was harvested by hand, then pressed gently to preserve purity and freshness. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, around 25–30% of which are new, followed by aging on the lees for up to a year with limited bâtonnage to maintain tension and aromatic clarity.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for fine seafood, lobster, scallops, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, and delicate fish with butter-based sauces. It also pairs beautifully with veal, mushroom risotto, or mature soft cheeses. Serve at 10–12°C, and a short decant is worthwhile if the wine is opened young to help it show its full aromatic range.
