Description
Domaine Guillemard-Clerc Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 is a serious and highly expressive Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most legendary appellations. Sourced from a well-positioned parcel in the upper part of Clos de Vougeot, it combines precision, structure, and classic Grand Cru depth with the kind of nuance that has made this walled vineyard a benchmark for generations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration and youth. The nose is layered and refined, offering black cherry, cassis, violet, forest floor, and a subtle touch of toasted oak.
On the palate, it is concentrated and firmly built, with dark fruit at the core, fine-grained tannins, and a vivid line of acidity that brings freshness and length. The finish is long and structured, suggesting excellent aging potential. This is a wine that should develop beautifully over 10–15 years, though it may begin to show early complexity after 5–6 years in bottle.
Production
The grapes come from old-vine Pinot Noir in the upper section of Clos de Vougeot, where the soils are more limestone-rich and better drained, helping the wine retain tension and define its Grand Cru character. The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season with good ripening and preserved acidity. Harvesting was done by hand with careful selection, followed by traditional vinification with destemming, spontaneous fermentation, and a long maceration. The wine was then matured for 16–18 months in French oak barrels, including a meaningful proportion of new oak, to build depth while preserving fruit and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This wine is best served with refined dishes such as roast duck, beef tenderloin, rack of lamb, game birds, or earthy mushroom-based preparations. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young to allow the wine to open up and soften its structure.
Producer
Domaine Guillemard-Clerc is a Burgundy producer with a strong focus on site expression and traditional winemaking. While detailed historical information is limited, the domaine is associated with carefully farmed parcels and a style that emphasizes precision, balance, and respect for terroir. This Grand Cru bottling reflects the producer’s ability to craft wines of seriousness and aging potential from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated vineyards.
