Description

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru 2011 is a beautifully poised Burgundy Pinot Noir, sourced from one of the appellation’s most respected Premier Cru sites. Les Cras is prized for its limestone-rich soils, which lend the wine a distinctive mineral edge and refined, graceful character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2011 shows a bright, translucent ruby hue typical of fine Chambolle-Musigny. The bouquet is lifted and elegant, with aromas of red cherry, redcurrant, floral notes, and a subtle spice that adds complexity without overwhelming the wine’s delicate profile. On the palate, it is all about finesse: fresh red fruit, silky tannins, and a clean mineral line that reflects the Les Cras terroir. The balanced acidity gives the wine energy and length, while the finish remains fragrant and persistent. It can be enjoyed now for its freshness and detail, but it still has several years of graceful evolution ahead, likely gaining more earthy and tertiary nuance with age.

Production
The grapes come from the Premier Cru vineyard Les Cras in Chambolle-Musigny, a site known for its limestone-dominant soils and ability to produce wines of precision and elegance. The 2011 vintage was marked by a challenging growing season, but careful vineyard work and selective harvesting helped preserve freshness and balance. Made from 100% hand-harvested Pinot Noir, the wine was vinified using traditional methods and native yeasts before being matured in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak. This approach adds structure, depth, and subtle complexity while allowing the purity of the fruit and the site’s mineral character to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile Burgundy for refined dishes such as roast duck, quail, mushroom risotto, veal, or simply grilled salmon with a delicate sauce. It also works beautifully with мягкие to semi-aged cheeses and earthy vegetable dishes. Serve at around 15-16°C; decanting is optional, but a short aeration can help the wine open up if enjoyed young.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired domaines, known for producing wines of precision, purity, and classical Burgundian elegance. Under Ghislaine Barthod’s stewardship, the estate has earned a strong reputation for expressing site-specific nuance with remarkable consistency, especially across its Premier Cru holdings. The domaine is widely respected among Burgundy enthusiasts for its meticulous vineyard work and deeply traditional winemaking.
