Description
Domaine Georges Roumier’s Ruchottes-Chambertin 2023 is a Grand Cru Burgundy of remarkable precision, drawing power more from mineral tension than sheer weight. From one of the Côte de Nuits’ most revered sites, it reflects the elegance and pedigree associated with Christophe Roumier’s understated but highly sought-after style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it promises the deep, luminous color typical of great Pinot Noir from Burgundy’s finest vineyards. The nose is finely layered and mineral-driven, with crushed limestone, dark berry fruit, a hint of white pepper, and a subtle thread of licorice.
On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced, showing supple tannins, impressive concentration, and notable depth without losing its sense of lift. The finish is lively, peppery, and complex, with the kind of length and finesse that suggests excellent aging potential over many years.
Production
Ruchottes-Chambertin is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s smallest and most distinctive Grand Cru climats, where limestone-rich soils and a naturally cool, compact terroir contribute to the wine’s mineral precision and aromatic clarity. The 2023 vintage was crafted from Pinot Noir grown in this highly prized site, with vinification aimed at preserving purity, site expression, and the delicate balance between ripeness and freshness.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, veal, mushroom risotto, or game birds served with earthy sauces. Serve at around 15–16°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth to allow the aromas and structure to unfold fully.
Producer
Domaine Georges Roumier is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated domaines, founded in the 1920s and now led by Christophe Roumier, who has helped maintain and enhance its reputation for elegance, precision, and restraint. Based in Chambolle-Musigny, the estate is regarded as one of the region’s benchmark producers, with a long history of producing highly expressive wines from exceptional terroirs and a global following among collectors.
